Easily the most famous and perhaps the greatest “inspirational teacher” movie of all time, Dead Poets Society is a seminal piece of filmmaking that teenagers and young adults have strongly responded to for decades, and that those like myself in middle age still have great affection for. However, is 12-years-old too young to appreciate it?… Read More Film After 11 Podcast | Dead Poets Society (1989)
I occasionally have a perverse compulsion to torture my poor son Thomas during our Film After 11 podcast. Knowing how little patience he has for science fiction and big special effects movies from the late 1970s or early 1980s (outside of Star Wars, of course), I subjected him this week to Moonraker, special agent James… Read More Film After 11 Podcast | Moonraker (1979)
To be honest about it, I was at a loss in choosing a movie to watch for the Film After 11 podcast this week. I had a few conflicting ideas, but none I was ready to do. My son Joseph, who’s a big Indiana Jones fan, requested the fourth movie in that series, the divisive… Read More Film After 11 Podcast | Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
Flagrantly and with full intention violating my own arbitrary rule against watching R-rated movies for our Film After 11 podcast (at least knowingly so), I decided to introduce one of my sons to John Woo’s blood-soaked action masterpiece The Killer this week. Without spoiling anything, it’s safe to say the kid was an instant fan.… Read More Film After 11 Podcast | The Killer (1989) Including 4K Ultra HD Disc Review
How well does The Sixth Sense play for a modern kid today who doesn’t know much about it? For that matter, how well does one of the most famous plot-twist movies in cinema history hold up to repeat viewings for someone who already knows the ending? Those are the big questions we explore in this… Read More Film After 11 Podcast | The Sixth Sense (1999)
Due to a scheduling conflict, the Film After 11 podcast will take a small vacation this week. That our review of Who… Read More Film After 11 Podcast Rerun | Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)
In a rare turn, I let my son Joseph pick the movie for this week’s episode of the Film After 11 podcast. He’d already watched a few minutes of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy at a friend’s house and wanted to see the rest. Who was I to argue with that choice? I’m still… Read More Film After 11 Podcast | Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)
This week’s double-length episode of the Film After 11 podcast is a doozy. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day in theaters, my son Thomas and I started off talking about its predecessor, 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. Somewhere along the way, the conversation went off the rails and… well, let’s just say that, like any Marvel… Read More Film After 11 Podcast | Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
The time has come for another new episode of the Film After 11 podcast. This week, I introduce my son Joseph to the classic Bill Murray comedy Groundhog Day. The classic Bill Murray comedy Groundhog Day. Bill Murray comedy Groundhog Day. You see what I did there? Really subtle, huh? I’d make a joke about… Read More Film After 11 Podcast | Groundhog Day (1993)
We’re all shook up on the Film After 11 podcast this week as we tackle director Ron Underwood’s 1990 horror comedy Tremors. The movie wasn’t much of a box office hit during its theatrical run, but quickly grew into a cult classic on home video. My son Thomas has taken an interest in horror movies… Read More Film After 11 Podcast | Tremors (1990)
